Indirect Tax Women’s Network Group

BLT manages two Indirect Tax Women’s Network groups, which are organised and led by Liz Watt via her business Liz Watt Coaching. Liz is well-known in Indirect Tax circles as the former MD of BLT.

Established in 2017, the network goes from strength to strength and provides a warm and welcoming environment to discuss relevant issues in a safe, supportive and collaborative environment. It is an opportunity to take time to plan, reflect and learn, gaining confidence through sharing ideas and experiences.

Why a women’s networking group? Research shows that one of the ‘unwritten rules’ of advancement in business is to have a strong network, both inside one’s workplace, as well as within the wider business community. And yet most women do not have as strong a business network as their male counterparts. Studies show that membership of a networking group helps increase women’s self-esteem, thus aiding them to reach their full potential.

  • The group is aimed at senior women in Indirect Tax – Senior Manager and above
  • Members are drawn from the profession – Big 4, mid-tier and independent consultancies; industry and commerce; the law
  • Membership is by invitation or application
  • An annual membership fee applies
  • Each group has approximately 14 attendees
  • Meets once a quarter for an afternoon. In the current pandemic environment, these are taking place virtually.
  • Each session features a guest presenter on a non-technical topical issue
  • There is a round table discussion on any issues relevant to the group
  • Plenty of opportunity for networking during the afternoon and afterwards;
  • Additional virtual ‘Coffee and Catch Up’ informal networking sessions are currently being trialled during the pandemic.
  • The group has a Linked-In group for further discussion information dissemination
  • Other events planned throughout the year
Programme Topics

As well as providing the opportunity for women to develop and extend their personal network, one of the aims of the group is to contribute to member’s personal development. Consequently the groups have enjoyed a really interesting range of guest speakers; topics covered have included:

  • Communication skills
  • Personal presentation/ building a great professional wardrobe
  • Resilience and stress management
  • Perfectionism, procrastination and productivity
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Confidence
