FOREIGN AFFAIRS CONSULTANT: Global Niche Player, political/development sector, Abu Dhabi – $100k – $250k depending on experience

This highly respected non-profit organisation works with governments and citizens across the developing world to drive change and launch initiatives aimed at addressing challenges related to diplomacy, extremism, governance, democracy and other areas.

Based in Abu Dhabi with work across the region, this role will involve around 50% client interaction and a broad mix of strategic comms and analysis along with hands-on project implementation. You will build relationships and deliver solutions directly for Heads of State, government ministers and government agencies.

To be considered you must have:

UK CUSTOMS MANAGER, Port Talbot – £40,000 – £60,000 + bens

A newly created role with a large multinational business.  Working as part of the Group Tax Team you will be the sole UK based Customs resource for the business and will be responsible for internal and external relations regarding customs and import issues.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing customs expertise as necessary to support the AEO Project and should the business become AEO certified, responsibility for maintaining the AEO certification.
  • Designing and implementing processes and procedures to facilitate the importation of goods from 3rd party countries and ensuring all import and export customs requirements are met.
  • Making an active contribution in centralising and optimising UK processes currently performed by different departments as well as (partly) outsourced to 3rd parties.
  • Acting as a point of expertise to advise and instruct the business on all customs related matters, including dealing with ad hoc customs queries and supporting internal departments such as purchasing, sales and logistics with advice, information and instructions on relevant (legislative) changes.
  • Keeping abreast of new and emerging (European) customs legislation, court rulings and guidelines and taking a proactive approach to implement changes throughout the business to ensure activities are carried out in an efficient and compliant manner.
  • Taking responsibility for stakeholder engagement, including raising awareness of customs requirements throughout the business and providing internal training where required.
  • Working with the business to optimise internal administrative systems, including IT processes, which are necessary in order to support customs compliance, including defining and supporting implementation of the solutions required to meet requirements and reviewing performance of vendors used to deliver the service.
  • Ensuring robust and efficient systems are in place to ensure compliance with all requirements, including taking an active role in the selection of vendors used to deliver customs brokerage services and assisting with system changes.
  • Working with VAT colleagues to, manage intrastat activities with foreign VAT compliance obligations.
  • Liaising with HMRC and other regulatory bodies including supervising and handling physical and administrative checks by customs authorities
  • Contributing to relevant consultations and participating in industry focus Groups to represent the interests of the business
  • A priority will be dealing with customs consequences of Brexit and ensuring that compliance obligations are understood and systems/processes are in place to ensure additional requirements can be met.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Extensive demonstrable experience in a customs or international trade support position and with an in-depth knowledge of customs laws and regulations relevant to a multinational manufacturing company supplying international markets.
  • Change management/project management experience.
  • Highly Proficient with IT software, including experience in relevant Windows packages (word, excel, powerpoint) is essential. Familiarity with SAP and customs-related software is desirable.

A new role with this major player in the drinks industry.  Reporting to the Indirect Tax Manager and joining an established tax team you will be responsible for maintaining and developing Customs and Excise processes whilst ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.

Key tasks:

  • Sustaining knowledge of Customs and Excise regulations and how they impact company operations
  • Responsible for accurate Excise Tax reporting
  • Maintain Excise Duty Management System SOPs
  • Conduct internal and external warehousing compliance audits
  • Managing compliance to EMCS and Import/Export obligations
  • Provide training in systems and processes, and provide routine guidance to internal stakeholders
  • Manage testing of any excise related systems enhancements
  • Assist in the development of Customs & Excise related projects

Essential requirements for the role:

  • Experience of working within an excise controlled environment
  • In-depth working knowledge of Customs and Excise regulationsand a strong compliance mindset
  • Computer literate to include a thorough understanding of SAP/Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work unsupervised
  • Able to demonstrate good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent team player building relationships across functional areas
