VAT SENIOR MANAGER, UK/South-East or Netherlands/Amsterdam – £Good base + car+ bonus

A great in-house role with this global brand.  Pitched at experienced Manager/ Senior Manager level you will be responsible for all VAT related matters that impact the business including advising the business on VAT efficient and compliant structures and supply chains, VAT reporting, and managing Tax Authority VAT audits.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support business projects, restructurings, including acquisitions and disposals
  • Liaison with finance, Legal, Supply Chain, Trade Affairs, Customs etc and other Third Party advisors, to resolve queries
  • Document, test and review VAT Treatment of all business flows
  • Responsible for support on testing of new and / or changes to business flows
  • Liaising with all Business Groups, Legal, Supply Chain, Trade Affairs, Customs etc to understand and advise in the design of efficient supply chains that fully comply with these legal obligations
  • Monitor Regional & Business Group processes and SAP set up of business flows to ensure VAT compliance.
  • Leading a team of VAT experts, managing VAT returns in Europe together with third party Business Process Outsourcers (BPO’s) both onshore and offshore whilst minimising potential VAT liability.
  • Accountable for all VAT compliance reports (VAT returns, EC sales lists, intrastats (ad hoc reports as required by local legislation) to third party business provider to ensure VAT return deadlines and compliance with VAT SOX processes.
  • Provide effective VAT advice to the business on VAT implications for business flows, structuring and other issues as required.
  • Identify, test and implement efficiencies in the system to minimise VAT costs to the business. Provide testing support to new projects in SAP.
  • Deliver training to business divisions, according to need; to ensure reporting information flowing to VAT team is as accurate as possible.
  • Raise awareness of the importance and relevance of VAT within the business in order to optimize VAT recoverability.

VAT ASSISTANT, London – to £45,000 + bens

A newly created role with this major brand to assist the Indirect Tax team in managing all indirect taxes across the region (Europe & AsiaPac).

The main responsibilities of this role will include:

Compliance and audits

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of VAT and IPT returns across the region, liaising with external advisors as required.
  • Ensure correct application and maintenance of the UK VAT group PESM.
  • Maintain and apply indirect tax elements of the Group Tax policy and procedures, including notes to ensure best practices within the group in connection with indirect tax reporting across the region.

  • Classification of products for import

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Business advisory

  • Providing support to group businesses in relation to business transactions ensuring that VAT risks are appropriately managed
  • Providing advice to the outsourcing team on VAT queries raised by suppliers and customers
  • Assisting in developing ideas, providing input and analysis to various VAT savings and mitigation initiatives and supporting practical implementation
  • Providing training to key business areas as required
  • Providing support to the Group Tax Department

Management

  • Managing all aspects of VAT compliance and creating a motivating and supportive environment for a small team.

Compliance

  • Full ownership of European VAT compliance, including managing the preparation and filing of VAT returns
  • Reviewing and approving VAT treatment for new events, manual invoices and credit notes
  • Preparing and reviewing UK partial exemption methodology, managing registration and deregistration of entities in the UK VAT Group
  • Managing VAT audits carried out by Internal Audit and/or HMRC and other authorities
  • Identifying, preparing and reviewing of voluntary disclosures for approval by the Group Tax Department
  • Proactively monitoring changes in legislation, assessing the impact on the business, communicating and managing any required changes
  • Supporting the Group Tax Department with enquiries from HMRC and other external tax authorities
  • Managing professional costs in relation to compliance (raising of purchase orders, negotiating and agreeing fees)
  • Reviewing VAT reconciliations and agreeing to VAT control Accounts in Oracle
  • Maintaining Oracle VAT registration summary for Group Tax Department

Risk & controls

  • Performing analyses and review of VAT recorded by using OneSource to determine the high risk areas (e.g. manual invoices) and implementing corrective steps
  • Designing and executing a review method for VAT processes to identify areas where controls can be enhanced
  • Ensuring operational (AR and AP) effectiveness and continuously improving the integrity of processes relating to VAT
  • Performing reviews and updates of process documentation (e.g. Desk Top Procedures)
  • Continuously liaising with the Group Tax Department to improve the integrity of our VAT controls

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong VAT experience, ideally candidates will be already operating as a VAT Manager with experience focussed on managing UK VAT affairs in a large complex organisation
  • The ideal candidate will have a relevant Tax qualification (ATT, CTA or equivalent)
  • Strong financial analysis skills
  • Effective communication – able to put across messages clearly and concisely
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to work effectively with finance managers, colleagues and external parties
  • Excellent prioritisation and organisational skills, including planning and delivery to challenging deadlines
  • Intermediate use of Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of Oracle and OneSource (not essential but advantageous)

A newly created role with this major manufacturing business.  The primary purpose of this position is to provide expert advice and guidance within the business to ensure compliance with UK and foreign import / export laws (including the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)), as well as conforming with internal corporate policies and procedures.

Skills required:

  • Educated to a degree level, or hold a professional qualification, or relevant business experience

  • Experienced practitioner with good working knowledge of foreign import / export regulations, particularly EU member states and the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and US Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
  • Experienced practitioner with a good working knowledge of UK/EU Customs regulations
  • Strong interpersonal/influencing skills to support decision making based on credible knowledge of International Trade.
