VAT SPECIALIST (Part-time is possible), South Coast – to £60,000

A unique opportunity to come in and take responsibility for indirect tax issues for this entrepreneurial, fast growing business.  There will also be the opportunity to get involved in other areas of tax as and when required.   Working closely with the Head of Tax, you will need to be a self-starter and able to work as part of a busy team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide internal VAT/indirect taxes technical knowledge and capability.  To be utilised particularly in respect of:
    • preparation/review of group entity VAT returns, including special partial exemption calculation.
    • consideration of the existing process for the preparation of the VAT returns and to identify/implement changes to improve the process to maximise efficiency in preparation and accuracy to minimise associated risk
    • assisting with associated HMRC queries
    • providing assistance with ad hoc VAT queries from group members
    • assisting with implementation of VAT initiatives
    • providing internal tax technical training, at the appropriate level
    • assisting with ad hoc non-UK indirect tax queries
  • Support the statutory accounts and budget processes in terms of tax disclosures and liabilities.
    • likely to include specific work on deferred tax disclosures
  • Support the Head of Tax on other ad hoc tax queries and tax planning initiatives being undertaken by the group.  This may include initiatives across a number of territories (particularly, UK, USA, Hong Kong & China) including corporate tax, transfer pricing, VAT, income tax and employee mobility.
    • likely to include researching tax technical matters
  • Support the Head of Tax in embedding a clear tax governance process throughout the business.
  • Work with the business and IT teams to implement appropriate processes and systems to ensure tax compliance throughout the business.
  • Support the Head of Tax in keeping the group up to date with key tax technical changes
  • Work with external tax advisors where necessary.

CUSTOMS SPECIALIST: Contract role, London – £Acc to level

A newly created role with this fast growing business. Joining a well established finance team you will be the focal point for all Customs matters for the group.    The role will initially be a 6 mnth contact, with the potential to extend to 12 months and flexible working will be considered.

Key requirements include:

  • Managing Customs compliance for the group – implementation of import and export processes to maintain 100% accuracy in the declaration of import and export transactions, supporting the business with AEO status;
  • Proven Customs technical and practical knowledge ensuring the right amount of customs duty and import VAT is accounted for;
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with key contacts, both internally and with HMRC, Freight Forwarders etc.;
  • A good working knowledge of customs classification and valuation;
  • An understanding of preference and origin rules;
  • Working knowledge of customs procedures, such as CFSP and Customs Warehousing;
  • Proven experience in the use of duty management systems (DMS) such as Ricardo and/or Langdon systems is desirable.
