Voice at the Table Conference : Ordinary People, Extraordinary Contributions

Liz attended the Voice at the Table conference : Ordinary People, Extraordinary Contributions on June 21st. Held in the magnificent surroundings of the Lansdowne Club, Berkley Square, the event celebrated the extraordinary contributions and achievements of ordinary men and women at work. The keynote speaker was Miriam González Durántez whose excellent speech really set the tone for the day.  We were shown how to bring our complete self to work and how to make use of our hidden talents. An important focus of the day for leaders was  how to look beyond the obvious in their colleagues and to leverage each person’s individual passions and strengths, thereby creating a truly inclusive culture. A key message of the day was to respect the individual and everything they have to offer. A really inspirational day!

BREAKFAST SEMINAR- ‘Brand You’ by Cliff Findlay

Business has changed. Every marketplace is now more competitive than ever before. To win new business you need to be different and say something that stands out. If you don’t then you make yourself like everyone else and the client can only choose through price or personal preference, neither of which are good scalable sales processes.

Cliff Findlay, author of the book ‘Why You’, founder of Tribe160 (a peer to peer network) and MD of Latitude Solutions (a B2B specific marketing company),  gave us a no-holds-barred session on how we should start to think about our businesses-  and even ourselves –  as a brand,  and create our own niche.

BREAKFAST SEMINAR – Speaker; James Eder, Founder & Head of New Business, The Beans Group, studentbeans.com

James Eder has created and built up Student Beans from just an idea to a nationally recognised brand across university campuses in the UK. James shared his story of setting up a website with his brother in 2005 when he was just 22, branching out from .com to cookbook and beyond and how the business (now called The Beans Group) won Digital Business of the Year 2013, set up Voxburner, a youth insights consultancy and grew to a team of over 40 employees.

James gave us tangible ideas and examples of what we can do to make a difference and how a bit of innovation can go a long way.

Networking is not just about drumming up new business or finding a job. In a connected world we’re expected to know where to find the answers to everything, instantly. Networking is an essential tool to help us do just that. Yet many professionals are ‘reluctant’ rather than ‘natural’ networkers, put off by the thought of ‘cold calling’ friends of friends or working a room full of strangers at a networking event.

Inspirational speaker and management consultant Neil Munz-Jones returned to BLT to help us all become better networkers.
